There was heavy rain overnight but eased off as we headed for Hamilton via Ellendale. Hamilton was an interesting historic pub with brand new facilities being built for overnight campers. The entry and exit to the camp site was quite steep. We hadn’t intended in staying but I would have to think about negotiating the steep gravel drive way.  The drove through to Derwent Bridge was interesting for the passenger but not so much for the driver.  Lots of 3rd gear bends and a few 2nd ones as well.  But the views of the lakes and hydro scheme were scenic and interesting. Average speeds were quite low as the roads were wet with light misty rain.

Before getting to the Wilderness Lodge at Derwent Bridge, we had been told the MUST DO was the The Wall. Greg Duncan’s vision of what he has created is amazing. The Wall in indoors in a magnificent designed building. It consists of 100 hand sculpted timber panels. No photography is allowed, but snaps on you mobile phone would not do it justice.  All I can say is that it is a massive gallery that you not only see but fills you with emotion. You feel it even though you can’t touch it.

We supported the lodge and had lunch there. The setup was great and we enjoyed our meal.
