Railton to Hadspen

We left the CMCA Campsite at Railton and headed for Entally Estate near Hadspen. We arrived at 10:30 and left at 1:30, there was so much to see and do.  Entally historic homestead and gardens had their very own special beginning. We found out about Mary Reiby who is on our $20 note. As a female convict, she rose above that as she was well educated. She was chosen for depiction on our currency because of her philanthropy and charitable work.  Mary’s son Thomas ReibyII  built the house with convict labour. It has been beautifully restored after its purchase by national trust in 1951.  It was the first open house museum in Australia.  It is thanks to the volunteers that we can see the past, today.  The gardens, grounds, buildings are surviving their age through the care and maintenance being given.  The information given by our volunteer historian into the family history of the Reiby family was in depth and gave a rare insight into the achievements and tragedies of that era.

We chose the Hadspen Discovery Caravan Park for a night on power.  We got the last powered site available.  It was great for a one nighter and was a fair price.
